Minoan Girl
Minoan dress, ancient Crete (2600 - 1400/1200 b.c.)

Womens garb consisted of a top with a very low neckline, so breasts were almost always exposed. These dresses are the first known garments in history who were sewn. The hair was elaborated with a headband and tiny jewels.

Assyrian Girl
Assyrian dress, ancient Assyria (2500 b.c. - 605 b.c.)

Womens garb consisted mainly of a tunic (long or short sleeves) with a big shawl draped over it (with endless designs and ways to drape).

Hansel and Gretel
The tale of Hansel and Gretel is said to have it's origins in the Middle Ages, the date between 1315 and 1321/1322. During this time, the Great Famine swept trough Europe. Leaving children to fend for their own, and even cannibalism, were things that occasionally happened back then.
(Poor witch was just hungry people ;))

Anyway, since I started designing Hansel and Gretel, I pictured them as cute redhead twins. They are dressed in early 14th century clothing, with both of them wearing hoods and Gretel wearing a sideless overgown, popular during the 13th and 14th century. Nothing fancy, since they are quite poor in the tale. Dark, plain colours.

Feel free to ask me more about them if I missed something out on here!

Snow White
EDIT: Changed the background.

Returning to my historically accurate fairy tales project! Oh, how I've missed it.

Many times I redesigned my precious Snow White. And oops, I did it again! ;)
She's still placed in the 1530's, but I wanted her dress to be somewhat more gloomy and not too fancy, like I always drew her. She's kindoff a prisoner of her evil stepmother, so happy and bright dresses are not really in context here I guess.

There are many, many, MANY variations of the 16th century Saxon dress (which is, so much different than the Tudor dresses of the time), but I think I'll stick with this one.

If you're interested in my previous versions of Snow White, check out my old account
There's also some research information which you might find interesting, but for now I'm too lazy to copy it here...

!!! If you do not know yet, my historically accurate fairy tales are not based on their Disney counterparts !!!

I go by the name of Anne, live in the Netherlands and have a big obsession with rabbits.
Currently studying to become a history teacher, it's not a surprise I love everything that involves that subject.

Also my art is mainly focused on history and historically accurate designs, with some fan-art of my favorite books and series.
